Watches have played a major role from the very beginning. Initially installed in the cockpit as fixed, on-board instruments, over time and with their decreasing size, they moved from the cockpit dashboard onto the wrist – heralding the birth of pilot’s watches. Meeting the highest functional requirements has always been crucial throughout.
To mark the 120th anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ first flight attempt, DAVOSA presents a new collection: the DAVOSA Newton Pilot Automatic. It was specially developed for the demanding needs of aviators, combining all the essential features of classic pilot watch design with the highest manufacturing quality and the use of state-of-the-art materials. The new series joins DAVOSA’s Newton series, which is dedicated to the inventor of time, Isaac Newton.

The DAVOSA Newton Pilot Automatic is a celebration of functional reduction. The precise Swiss DAV 3021ND automatic movement displays the seconds in addition to hours and minutes, and dispenses with a date display altogether. This creates a perfect symmetry across the dial surface of fine sunburst. The impression and brilliance of fine sunbeams, mirroring the experience of watching the sun rise from the cockpit, lend the timepiece a touch of subtle sophistication and elegance. Raised indices and Arabic numerals mark the hours, while a triangle at twelve o’clock provides helpful orientation. Satin-finished sword hands in an optimal aspect ratio underscore the meticulous attention to detail, as does the seconds hand with its stylised airplane tip. Night-time orientation in luminescent blue on both the numerals and hands is given through a generous application of SuperLumiNova® BGW9, whose white colour contrasts well against the dark dial in daylight.

The Newton Pilot is powered by kinetic energy generating by your arm’s movement, which sets the skeletonised, Geneva-striped rotor, visible through the screw-down glass back, in motion. The energy generated in this way tensions the mainspring and builds up a power reserve of about 40 hours. DAVOSA’s watchmakers have regulated the movement with particular precision to achieve a rate deviation corresponding to the elaboré grade. Reliability and precision you can rely on!
